Notice of Construction

Micro Surfacing Program

Range Road 195 (from TWP RD 384 – HWY 12) – 2.8 km

Date: September 23 – October 3 2025 (dates may vary)

The County of Stettler No.6 has contracted West-Can Sealcoating Inc. to resurface your road.

The following information outlines what to expect during construction.

What to expect

  • Temporary construction signs and barricades will be placed before the work starts.
  • Flaggers will knock on doors before the application to notify residents.
  • A thin, black surface treatment is applied to the complete road surface to preserve the roadway condition.
  • The surface will be completely cured in three days. Please avoid turning your steering wheel while the vehicle is stationary, or wheel spinning, as this could damage the fresh surface.
  • Work on your road will only last one day depending on weather.
  • Driveway access will be restricted during the application.
  • Flaggers will be positioned to accommodate local traffic through the construction zone when safe to do so.
  • All construction will cease at the end of the working day and driveway access will be once again available.
  • The material will stick to tires, footwear and clothing so it is important to avoid the area during work and immediately after application. Typically, 2-3 hours after application.
  • Noise, dust, debris and uneven surfaces may be present during construction, along with large equipment.
  • The safety of drivers, pedestrians and workers is our highest priority. Please slow down and drive with care.

Weather delays

Weather can cause unexpected delays. Although we strive to maintain schedules, timeline changes may occur.

Frequently asked questions

What is micro surfacing and why is it different than asphalt?

Micro surfacing is a method of pavement preservation designed to seal, protect and prolong the life of an existing asphalt structure. Micro surfacing is intended to provide a durable, skid-resistant surface. Application can be for crack repair, rut filling and/or surfacing the entire roadway surface.

What is in the product? Is it safe for pets and the environment?

Micro surfacing is an asphaltic technology utilizing 100 per cent manufactured aggregate, mineral fillers, water and emulsion liquid asphalt as its primary materials for the resurfacing. This product has low energy requirements, is environmentally safe, and is 100 per cent recyclable.

Will access to my house be restricted?

You will not be able to access your driveway during the construction period. In an emergency, access will always be permitted. Flaggers will assist you through the zone in periods of no activity.

The road is closed for micro surfacing. How long will it be closed?

The contractor will open the roadway as soon as the micro surfacing has cured sufficiently for traffic. This typically takes approximately three hours after placement is complete depending on the temperature. All roads will be reopened to traffic at the end of the construction day.

Can I run my sprinkler during micro surfacing?

Please avoid running sprinklers during and for three hours after the micro surfacing product is applied.
