Bar W Resort - Proposed Development - South Shore of Buffalo Lake (NE 20-40-20-4)

The developer of the Bar W Resort has submitted their development permit application to the County of Stettler. 

On July 28, 2023, the County deemed the application complete. This means the information needed by the County to consider the developer’s proposal has been provided.

As of July 28, 2023, the County has up to 40 days to process and to decide on the application (unless the applicant agrees to give the County more time). The decision will be made by the County’s Municipal Planning Commission.

Given the broad interest in this proposed development, the County is facilitating public opportunity to review the submitted materials and provide comments to the County’s Municipal Planning Commission. 

The following opportunities are available:

2. Members of the public are welcome to submit written comments on the proposed development. Comments can be emailed to barwcomments@stettlercounty.ca or mailed to:

or dropped off at the County Office at 6602 – 44 Avenue, Stettler, AB. 

All written comments received will be passed along to Municipal Planning Commission and be available in the public meeting agenda package. The deadline for sending in comments is noon on August 23, 2023.

3. The Planning staff report and recommendation to Municipal Planning Commission will be posted on the County website on the afternoon of August 25, 2023.

4. Members of the public are welcome to make brief presentations to Municipal Planning Commission at a special meeting. This meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 31, 2023 at
1:00 pm. It will be held at the Stettler Community Hall, 5101 - 46 Avenue, Stettler, AB.

To facilitate the August 31, 2023 meeting, the Municipal Planning Commission will require each presenter to abide by the following rules:

1. No written submissions shall be accepted at the meeting. All written submissions must be sent in before noon on August 23, 2023.

2. The Chair shall ask for presenters one at a time. Only the person who has been recognized by the Chair shall speak. Each presenter must identify themselves for the meeting record.

3. All presentations and questions shall be directed to the Chair/Commission Members.

4. Each person wishing to present shall be given 5 minutes to make their presentation. Only one presentation is allowed from each person.

5. Presenters are asked to avoid repeating materials covered by prior presenters in the interest of time. The Chair may require each presenter to yield their time or focus on new matters if the presenter is being repetitive.

6. After each presenter, the Chair and Commission Members may ask questions of the presenter.

7. Presenters may not address questions to other presenters.

8. Once presentations have been made by the public, the Chair/Commission Members will        provide an opportunity for the Applicant and Planning Staff to speak to any of the points raised in the presentations.
