Safety Code Permits
The County of Stettler No. 6 is not accredited to administer the provincial Safety Codes Act.
As of May 1, 2016, Alberta Safety Codes Authority administer the Alberta Safety Codes Act (The Act) in all unaccredited municipalities of Alberta. The Act establishes a unifying administration to ten safety disciplines that each have their own safety codes to keep the public safe in the places they live, work and play.
It is the landowner’s responsibility to comply with the Safety Codes Act for new building construction, additions, or renovations, and electrical, plumbing, gas and private sewage disposal system by obtaining a safety codes permit from Alberta Safety Codes Authority via one of their contracted accredited agencies.Please be aware that no work may be commenced without the required development permit from the County and the required safety codes permits from the Alberta Safety Codes Authority. Follow this link to find out how to obtain a development permit from the County. Please contact the Alberta Safety Codes Authority or any agency of your choice to inquire about safety codes permits.
An application for a safety codes permit may be submitted to any Alberta Safety Codes Authority contracted service provider listed below. The County's administration office at 6602 – 44 Avenue in Stettler will continue to be a drop-off and collection point for building plans and other documents. Please make the necessary arrangements.In order to apply for a safety codes permit, a development permit from the County may be required. One of the conditions on the development permit will require that, if and when you do apply to ASCA for a building permit and/or a plumbing permit (private sewage disposal system), you provide the County's Planning and Development Department with a copy of your safety codes permit applications, so that the County can review your building plan, site plan and private sewage disposal system for compliance with any applicable statutory plan, the Land Use Bylaw and an approved development permit, for matters including land use, site plan, building height, yard setbacks, floor area, the type of private sewage disposal system and septic tank installed in specific areas and any variances approved by the development authority.

The County wants to help ensure that safe buildings are constructed. Please call Planning and Development Services at 403-742-4441 for advice. Please do not start construction or installation before obtaining a development permit and a Safety Codes permit.
