The final stages of the insolvency processes involving Tallahassee Exploration are nearing completion, and that the Orphan Well Association (OWA) anticipates a number of sites will be designated as “orphans” by the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) in your county, municipal district or Special Area.
When a well, pipeline, facility or associated site in Alberta no longer has a legally or financially responsible party that can be held accountable, it may be designated as an orphan by the AER and becomes the responsibility of the OWA. Our role is to decommission the site and restore the land to as close to its original state as possible. Every site that is closed is then available for farming, pastureland, wildlife habitat, recreation, or a growing community.
The Orphan Well Association will hold and Open House to explain how orphan wells, pipelines and facilities are managed.
The AER, Farmers’ Advocate Office, and the Land and Property Rights Tribunal will also attend to answer questions. We invite you to join us. Lunch will be served.
