[ARCHIVED] County residents will vote June 27 to decide if County can borrow and build new County Shop.

County of Stettler ratepayers will have to head to the polls to decide if the County of Stettler may borrow money to build a new shop. A petition was received challenging Borrowing Bylaw 1564-16 which was then declared sufficient on June 7 with 527 valid names (510 were required). County Council then decided it would take Borrowing Bylaw 1564-16 to the a vote of the electorate.

The question ratepayers will need to answer at the polling stations on June 27 is: 'Are you in favour of Council passing Bylaw 1564-16 authorizing the borrowing of $5,261,000.00 for the construction of a new County Public Works Shop Facility?'

The advance vote will take place on June 23, 2016 from 12:00 pm-6:00 pm at the Stettler Ag Society, Heritage Room. Voting will take place on Monday, June 27, 2016 from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm at the following voting stations:
Byemoor Community Hall; Big Valley Community Hall; Botha Community Hall; Erskine I.O.O.F. Hall; Stettler Ag Society, Heritage Room; and Donalda Community Hall. Voters may cast their vote at any one of the above voting stations, regardless of where they reside in the County.
A person is eligible to vote in an election if the person is:
a) at least 18 years old,
b. is a Canadian citizen, and
c. has resided in Alberta for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding voting day
d. is a resident of the County of Stettler on election day
e. Every voter shall make a statement, in the prescribed form, that the person is eligible to vote as an elector and produce for inspection one piece of authorized identification verifying the person's identity and current residence.

Prior to voting the County of Stettler Council will host Public Information Sessions about the issue at the County of Stettler Public Works Shop on Tuesday, June 21 from 6-8 PM and Wednesday, June 22 from 2-4 PM.
Council urges everyone to attend an information session to ask questions, see the plans for the proposed shop, and tour the existing facility.
