The Town of Stettler has informed the County of Stettler of their intention to withdraw from the Stettler Regional Fire Agreement. Preliminary discussions have been held between the County and the Town, and both parties remain committed to providing a smooth transition period as the fire service in our region undergoes change.
The County of Stettler and the Town of Stettler have both enjoyed the benefits of a joint regional fire partnership for more than 10 years.
“We are disappointed with the Town of Stettler’s decision to terminate the agreement, however each Council must make decisions based on their community’s needs. Moving forward, we respect the Town and County have different priorities. We remain committed to working towards a smooth transition away from a joint fire service, which will include positive outcomes for our region and community,” said Larry Clarke, Reeve for the County of Stettler.
The County of Stettler would like to recognize and thank Stettler Regional Fire Chief, Mark Dennis and Deputy Chief Etienne Brugman for their service and leadership of our joint regional fire department. Looking towards the future, the County is researching options for a centralized County Fire Station which would support the County of Stettler’s three rural stations and volunteers located in Big Valley, Donalda and Byemoor.
